Commonly seen lazily basking in the sun the true brilliance of the Tetraodon-pleuronecti is seen when hunting. while it is capable of efficiently hunting when un-inflated, a unique hunting adaptation is in its ability to inflate its body and activate a kaleidoscope display of color. This act mesmerizes/ hypnotizes its more aggressive and armed prey items long enough to inflict the death blow. The display is also seen during the mating season.
