Classified as "periodic parents" a mating couple will build a single egg filled nest (up to 15 eggs) surrounded by empty decoy nests. eggs are buried in the soil and then covered with a mixture of sticky saliva and mud, formed by the parents head, which will harden and create a hard shell cover for the nest. The parents will have little to no interaction with the nest until the chicks are ready to hatch, where both parents will chisel away at the shelled nest to release the chicks.
